The Fields Pianos Concert & Artist department is a part of Steinway & Sons global bank of concert ready performance pianos. Every Steinway piano is handmade and has its own distinct personality. More than 98% of today’s concert pianists choose Steinway for all of their performances.
“One of the great fears among concert pianists is the “house piano” where they are scheduled to perform that hasn’t been properly maintained. Our C&A department allows them the “peace of mind” to select the piano that is just right for them in regards to tone and touch and, oftentimes, provides a home away from home where they can practice when they are in Los Angeles.” says David Ida, Director of the Concert & Artist Services for Fields Pianos.
A typical C&A rental is for 1-3 days. Most of the usages are concerts held at the various venues around Los Angeles; such as, The Kodak Theatre, Hollywood Bowl, Greek Theatre, Royce Hall, Bovard Auditorium at U.S.C., or recording sessions at places like Capitol Record, Sony studios, etc. The service includes delivery of the instrument, tuning, and oftentimes stand- by during the performance/recording.
The key to keeping the artists happy with our selection is Chief Concert Piano Technician, Ron Elliott. Ron is in charge of seeing to the health and welfare of the six 9’-0” model D concert grand pianos in the selection room. In addition to caring for the pianos at Fields Pianos, Ron is the Chief Concert Technician for the Los Angeles Philharmonic based in the Walt Disney Concert Hall and also tends to the pianos owned at Todd A.O. Studios in North Hollywood. “We are very fortunate to have Ron personally tuning and regulating these instruments.”

Recently at the Ojai Music Festival, Pierre- Laurent Aimard was music director and solo artist and the majority of music was focused on piano repertoire , some with multiple pianos. One of the pieces performed required four matching concert grands. Therefore, arrangements were made for Aimard and Tamara Stefanovich to visit the selection room to choose the pianos they felt would work with the various pieces. The five day festival proceeded with Ron there every day to attend to the piano’s and artist’s needs.
